Ry joined ESF in the fall of 2019 as a masters student, where he is co-advised by Drs. Diane Kiernan and John Drake. He investigated how forest management legacies affect carbon sequestration, productivity, and resilience in New York forests. More broadly, Ry is interested in how forested ecosystems are responding to climate change, and how people can better adapt to a rapidly changing world by using new and inventive forest management strategies.
Ry was born and raised in Kansas and received his bachelors in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Kansas. He spent a field season at the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) before moving to the Northeast to build trails and teach environmental education and forestry to elementary school students. In the year before joining the lab, Ry worked as a research intern in Puerto Rico and Trinidad. Ry now works as a Forester for a consulting company in central Massachusetts. Between work, Ry enjoys playing Banjo, hiking very long distances, and camping. |
